Hi. I'm Jeffrey Janis, Director, Major Gifts for United Way of Greater Los Angeles. When I first began working for United Way over 2 years ago, I was not only responsible for major gifts but planned gifts as well. A few weeks into the job, I received a call from United Way of America talking about a CGA or charitable gift annuity. I had no idea why they were calling me but found out United Way of Greater Los Angeles would be the beneficiary of 3 annuities...from the same donor! Every year around the same time, this couple would fund a CGA with UWA with United Way of Greater Los Angeles as the beneficiary. What great news this was considering I knew nothing about the donors and also not much about CGA's. Since the usual month in which they fund a CGA passed, UWA got in touch with me and suggested I call this couple and ask if they would like another CGA. I called the couple and the answer was YES. They wanted another CGA but just forgot to call us. It was a very easy process and I was thrilled to have UWA supporting and teaching me along the way.
