White House Budget Changes Taxes

On February 1, 2010, the White House released the budget for fiscal year 2011. The budget projects a spending level of $3.8 trillion and a deficit of $1.56 trillion.

Toyota Gives Favorable Report Despite Recall

Despite all of the negative press of Toyota's recent vehicle recall, stemming from a problem with accelerator pedals, the company posted rising third-quarter profits this week.

Treasurys Rise on Unemployment Report

Treasurys rose Friday on reports of a decline in U.S. unemployment, although the economy lost 20,000 jobs in January. The unemployment rate fell from 10% to 9.7% in January according to the Labor Department report.

Mortgage Rates Remain Stable and Low

Freddie Mac reported long-term mortgage rates remaining stable and low this week. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (FRM) averaged 5.01%, up from last week when it averaged 4.98%.
